Why is my cat lethargic, in pain, and not peeing after a storm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 25 lbs

A storm just hit my house last night with lighting and thunder. All of my cats seemed fine and we went to sleep. The next day, My 25-pound cat is not acting like himself. He usually likes to explore but he just sits in one place whenever he can. He hasn't used the bathroom either. He wont even let us pick him up anymore without him crying. Please tell me what is going on. I just want my best friend back.

It sounds like something is causing pain or discomfort for Oreo. I highly recommend having your kitty examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. He could have a serious illness such as a urinary tract obstruction and this can be life-threatening if not corrected quickly. If you can't get in with your regular veterinarian, I recommend taking him to an emergency veterinarian.
