Is it safe to give my dog antihistamines for a rash or allergies?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 4 lbs

Hi. I've seen a comment somewhere where a woman said that she was giving her dog antihistamines for his nettle rash. I'm wondering if it's safe for dogs? Because I'm not sure. When our little goofball had it we calmed it down with water and it disappeared in 2 days. Also before I going on little picnic trip with her and my family, I might look into purchasing the Musher's Secret Paw Protection Wax somehow. Thanks guys.

Antihistamines are used routinely in dogs, but if Bella has a rash it's best to have an exam done by your veterinarian. Rashes can be caused by allergies but also bacterial and fungal infections, mites, immune suppression and other causes so it's important to get the right diagnosis.
