My dog bumped his back in the car. Is he okay or internally hurt?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old

Bruno was sitting backseat of the car and facing back side only watching out from the rear trunk glass and I pressed break due to speed breaker so he bumped his back on the front seat and make little noise as if he hurt or what I don't know so I am very scared now does he hurt himself a lot or any his organ of the body inside ? Though he is walking fine running fine playing and eating fine and is active

Poor Bruno. If he is acting relatively normal, with no limping or lethargy then he is likely just fine. It takes a lot more blunt trauma than a fall that occurred in a car to cause internal organ damage. He likely helped because it scared him and cause him minor discomfort at the time, but now he is all better. Just continue to monitor him for the next 24 hrs for any abnormal behavior and get him checked by your vet if you notice anything unusual (vomiting, lack of appetitie, limping, continuous crying out, etc). But chances are he will be just fine. : )

How scary! It sounds like Bruno is just fine if he is acting normally. He is a mature, large breed dog and not a tiny toy breed puppy (and thus very fragile). If he is acting completely normal, and continues to eat and drink and play normally, he is likely just fine! Hope that helps.
