When is it safe for my puppy to go to Petco after vaccinations?

I would wait until at least 10 days after Daviana got her final series of vaccines to make sure she is fully vaccinated. The last serious is usually given between 14-16 weeks of age, so she won't be fully protected until she is a least 16-18 weeks of age.

    Hello. The best thing you can do for the puppy is have her examined by a veterinarian now who will check her overall health & check her for intestinal & external parasites. If anything is found, she will be treated appropriately. Vaccinations start at 6-8 weeks & continue every 3-4 weeks until she is 16 weeks of age. Then she will receive booster vaccinations one year later. Spaying, so she does not have unwanted litters, should be done before her first heat cycle or before she is 6-8 months old. I prefer she not be around other dogs until she’s 14 weeks old and has finished her vaccinations. You certainly can take her out and about as long as you minimize her contact with other dogs. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Mia.

My puppy is 10 weeks old tomorrow and just got his DHPP and deworming shots yesterday. Is he okay to start socializing with people and other dogs as well as going to new places? He gets the rest of his shots in a month.
Socialization in controlled environments is good (such as puppy classes where all puppies must show proof of vaccination) or with friends that you trust to have their dogs vaccinated. I would not recommend going to public parks or pet stores until 1 month after the last vaccination (usually at 16 weeks of age).

Thanks for visting Boop by Petco. Coco is considered to be fully vaccinated 7 days after her 3rd round of vaccines, which is between 14-16 weeks of age. She currently isn't fully vaccinated, so it is best to wait a bit if possible. I would recommend doing puppy wipes or waterless shampoo until then, if you are not too keen on doing a full on bath right now. This can at least get some of the puppy dirt off until she is ideal age for a grooming appt. Another alternative is to have a mobile groomer do her bath or discuss with the grooming facility to see if they take any extra precautions for puppies that aren't fully vaccinated. Some facilities can help accomodate for these types of situations, so it never hurts to ask. I hope that this was helpful. Best wishes with your pet Coco moving forward. Take care!

Hello. Just to be sure, please try to wait until Vino gets that last booster at 16 weeks of age. I agree 100% with your vet that the 6 week shot was very likely ineffective, so he does need the last vaccine to make sure he can fight off any disease he might come across. Better safe than sorry. I have my puppy his first set of shots today.. when will he be able to interact with my other animals? Do I have to wait before the vaccine goes into effect?
DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza) vaccines or equivalents are typically given every 3-4 weeks from 6-8 weeks of age until at least 16 weeks of age. A rabies vaccine and some optional vaccines will likely be given during these booster vaccine appointments. Your puppy will not be fully protected by these vaccines until 2-3 weeks after the last vaccine - generally around 18-19 weeks of age. Try to keep your puppy away from other unknown dogs until 2-3 weeks after his last vaccine (aside from housemate dogs or even adult dogs owned by family/friends that you can confirm are up to date on all of their vaccines). Some of these viruses can remain in the soil for years, so your puppy could even be at risk walking around your neighborhood if another dog has previously shed parvovirus, for example. Can I take out my puppy out to the park after his 2nd vaccination?
I would wait a few days after the second vaccination to take her out. However I would wait until a few days after the third vaccination before going to a dog park. The body needs time to make antibodies, and that happens in the days after a vaccination.

Is it safe to take in a non-fully vaccinated puppy to your dog washing stations or should he be bathed at home till fully vaccinated? He’s 7.5 weeks old.
Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. It would be safest to bathe him at home until he is fully vaccinated. This would limit his risk of acquiring any infectious diseases. If you really want to take him, then I recommend carrying him into the facility. Place him in the tub, bathe him and then carry him out of the store. Do not allow him to interact with other dogs or go to the bathroom outside the store where other dogs go. Many infectious diseases are spread through the feces. I hope this information helps!

I’m getting a golden retriever puppy in 3 weeks. When I pick him up he will be about 8 weeks old and would have had his first vaccination. How long should I wait before introducing my dog to other dogs?
Hello. Your new puppy can interact with any of your own pets if they have been fully vaccinated. Otherwise, we recommend keeping your puppy at home & away from all other dogs, dog parks, or any places where dogs might congregate until the full series of puppy shots are finished. That means he will be able to interact with other dogs after he has received his 12 week & 16 week boosters. Keep him well protected until he is 4 months of age. I should also mention that if your puppy receives his first puppy shot at around 6 weeks of age, he should actually be vaccinated again at 8 weeks ( a lot of breeders like to vaccinate at 6 weeks, but this is too early ). Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I do not recommend bringing your puppy in public places and/or around other dogs until he is fully finished his course of puppy vaccines. He will be at a huge risk of contracting infections such as parvovirus and other respiratory infections, that can be severe. I hope this is helpful!

Can I get a walk from my dog in public when he completed his vaccine?
A dog is considered fully vaccinated after receiving a distemper/parvovirus vaccine every 3-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age and a rabies vaccine (dependent upon location). About 2 weeks after the last vaccine, your dog should have developed an appropriate immune response and protective effect from the vaccines, so at that time he would be able to walk in public.
