14 days my dog has been on diamicron Mr 15g for diabetes. His excessive water consumption and urinating is near back to normal during the day, but at night he wants to get up every three hours and if i don't hear has an accident. It's definitely not behavioural, as I've tried discipline. Also heard these pills are not good for dogs.....should I now take him off them? Thank you

Hello. I believe I answered your previous question. The problem is not his pills, the problem is his diabetes is worsening and is not being controlled with the pills. You will need to go to your vet to discuss starting on insulin. Without insulin he will develop life-threatening diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). The pills are fine. Please discuss insulin with your vet. Good luck with your little one!

Hello. Shaunie's water consumption and urination is due to the glucose in his urine. This is likely increasing due to his diabetes worsening, not the medication. The medication is trying to help decrease his glucose, however what he needs is insulin. Please take Shaunie to your vet to discuss diabetes management and get him started on insulin. It is important this is monitored by a vet, as an overdose of insulin can cause fatal hypoglycemia, so it is very important you get the proper dose, and the proper syringes for the type of insulin, from your vet. Good luck with Shaunie. The medication is not bad for him, and not causing the signs, his diabetes is.
