My cat's paw is swollen and painful after a fight. Does he need meds?

Hello, Festus got into a fight about 5 days ago and this left thumb nail is VERY swollen, it is causing him pain he was limping yesterday he is not today. He is eating drinking and using the bathroom normally. He seems okay besides he is obviously injured, I know cats hide pain so I'm not sure what to think. The thumb nail is VERY swollen. He is still friendly and not hiding away in corners, he is a mostly indoor cat who goes out once or twice a day. Please tell me if he needs meds. Thanks

Most likely Festus is painful and he requires anti-inflammatory/pain relief meds and antibiotics if the swelling is caused by any cause that can bring infection in (bite wound for example). The swelling could be caused by a fracture as well, so radiographs may be needed after physical examination. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
