Why is my cat growling when I pick him up after he threw up?

My cat threw up a lot. There was no blood or anything. He had some meat that might not have agreed with him. He then slept for a few hours and seems fine now. He had a cat treat. But he growls when I lift him up he never did this before. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered
