When to move a new chick from coop to heat lamp? Hen not brooding.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

This is a question about chick hatchlings. We have Siklie chicks hatching. One just hatched in the coop the hen is using. When is it safe to remove the chick from the coop and place under a heat lamp? We are concerned because temperatures are still dropping down to the 50's where we live and the hen is not making it a priority to lay on the chick.

Once the chicks are dried and fluffed up, they can be moved to as brooder or to an area with a supplemental heat lamp. Keep them at about 95 F for the first week. Decrease by 5 F each week until the temperature is at 70 F.
