Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 5 days old | 40 lbs
My 18 week old Golden Retriever pup has woken up coughing and hacking the last two mornings. He was treated with Bordatella on February 14th this year. Spoke to the vet and she told us it was not kennel cough as he had no fever. We were told to call in three days if persisted. Only does this in the first several hours after waking up or after running around playing.

Brady's cough could have a number of underlying causes, such as heart disease, a heavy parasite burden (some worms can migrate through the lungs), heartworm disease (highly unlikely due to Brady's age), tracheal sensitivity, kennel cough (still a possibility), among others. Since the cough has recurred, Brady should see his vet for a recheck exam and may need chest x-rays and a fecal exam to check for parasites. I hope he's feeling better soon!
