Dog paw wound near claw, licking. Can I use antibacterial powder?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 35 years and 10 months old | 26 lbs

My huskamute has what looks like a puncture wound on his paw near his outside claw which he keeps licking. I am currently keeping my eye on it for infection and putting Vetzyme antibacterial powder on it. Am I doing the right thing? I will take him to the vet tomorrow if it doesn't look any better

Hello. I would suggest getting a collar/cone so he cannot lick at it, and to just wash it with warm water, no soap or products. I would stop putting any products on it, and then get it seen in the morning. Good luck with Shadow!
