How do I stop my cat from pulling out fur and licking himself bald?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My cat is pulling out his fur. He stopped for about a month and has now started back in a fury. I have used flea/tick stuff on him, and he's not really scratching any, just constantly licking and pulling. I love my furbaby and I don't want him bald. What can I do to help him stop?

Poor Onyx sounds very uncomfortable! He could be suffering from a flea allergy, which can happen when a cat has a previous heavy burden of fleas. I would have him seen by a vet today if possible or first thing Monday. If he is suffering from a flea allergy, the vet can prescribe medication to treat it.
