Hi, I have an English staffy, he is 9 yrs old. Yesterday when I got home he seemed sad and not himself. After taking him to the vets he has been prescribed with anti-inflammatorys. He can't walk up and down stairs. I'm just wondering how long this will last and what's accuat;y wrong. The vets said it was in the lower back ?

Hello. I am sorry that Barney isn't feeling well. A problem of the lower back could be either a spinal disease (IVDD- intervertebral disc disease) where the spine is being compressed, or could be a more simple arthritis. The anti-inflammatories should kick in and provide pain relief within about 1 hour. If the vet feels this is a spinal disease (IVDD) then you should make sure Barney has very little motion, is not walking up and down stairs, and is 'cage rested' for 4-6 weeks. I would suggest calling your vet to determine what they think the problem is, and what the recommendation is moving forwards, as some conditions you want to exercise and some are very bad with exercise. Good luck with Barney!
