Will limited play harm my 4-month-old energetic golden retriever?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello I have a question. I have a golden retriever. He is 4 month old. He stays at my families house. Because I live in other city. In 3 months I will start living with my family. Odie, my dog is so energetic and he wants to play a lot. I know that we should play with him all the time. But this 3 month my familiy do not have much time to play with him. I really do not want to upset him. I try to go to my hometown when ı have free time. Does this will cause any problems for my dog in the future?

It is important that Odie does receive daily exercise, and that can be in the form of playing. He should be exercised at most 20 minutes a day at four months old, but you don't want to overexercise him as that can have negative effects on his growth. Just getting that short amount of time in with him now will be enough.
