My large, aggressive dog needs oral sedation for humane euthanasia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Neapolitan Mastiff | Male | 8 years old | 140 lbs

We want to sacrifice our Mastiff because he is very sick and no Veterinarian in my City wants to treat him because they say it is to big and to aggressive. So we decided that we want to put him down. But the Vet that will do ot doesn't want to inject it because he says is to big, he wants us to sedate him with an injection, but the dog wont let us either he wants to bait us. How can we sedate him without an injection. Any pill suggestion?

For sedation prior to euthanasia many injectable drugs can be given orally, often at very high doses, in order to tranquilise. This method is risky as dose rates are not accurate but over-dose is preferable for everyone's safety and comfort. These drugs are generally only permitted for use by veterinary surgeons so you should discuss with them the possibility of a house call to administer the medications in a small amount of very tasty food followed by immediate injection as soon as sleeping.
