Owner of a 7 year old puggle. She consistently is having issues swallowing her food. She gulps and licks her lips constantly. We have changed her food to a Prescription Diet food on our vets recommendations. We have had an X-ray, ultrasound and many visits to the vet for this issue. It sounds like she experiencing nausea so she may need an anti-nausea medication, like Cerenia, an antacid, and/or a gastrointestinal protectant to help treat. It might also help to put her on a hypoallergenic diet, like z/d or d/d. You could also add a probiotic to her diet and see if that helps. If it continues than you could take her to an internal medicine specialist for an endoscopy and intestinal biopsies to get a definitive diagnosis.

Hernias can and do develop in pugs and crosses, specialist imaging is required either with CT/MRI or barium swallows. Eating too fast can also contribute and I would try varying the texture of her food, feeding from a platform the same height as her elbows and slowing down eating by using a slow feeder. Since she's done well for so long with her current food, I wouldn't make that my first choice for what's wrong. I would certainly get her skin looked after by your vet. Something may have bitten or stung her on her belly, she may have come into contact with some substance that irritated her skin, there are a number of possibilities. That looks inflamed and raw enough to need antibiotics and/or steroids to help clear it up.
