Why is my dog throwing up undigested food after a dog attack?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs

My little Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix 4 year old dog was attacked by another dog, we took him to the vet and they have him fluids, antibiotics, and pain meds. A couple weeks later he keeps throwing up every time he eats. Was foamy with no blood. Now it's slimmy with no blood. As soon as he eats the good almost instantly is thrown up and it's not liquidy, it looks like soft dog food out of a can. We've taken him to the vet over this and they can't figure it out and keeps giving him nausea shots.

Based on the history and description, I would be concerned about trauma to the esophagus causing a stricture. You need to follow up with your veterinarian and discuss x-rays or abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy. If your veterinarian does not offer ultrasound or endoscopy ask about referral to a veterinary specialist.
