My dog's separation anxiety is extreme. Is medication the next step?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 24 days old | 29 lbs

I have tried everything for my dogs seperation anxiety, Adaptil collars, thunder shirts he just destroys them. Is it time to try anxiety medication?

Poor Aegon! It sounds like you have tried some good options already. In my experience, the vast majority of dogs with separation anxiety really need prescription medication in order to have success in treating this problem. I would definitely recommend discussing this with your veterinarian to see if he/she thinks that Aegon would be a good candidate for medication. You could also request referral to a veterinary behaviorist for a more in-depth treatment plan for him, especially if your regular veterinarian isn't very familiar with behavior issues - you can search for one in your area here: www.dacvb.org

    Yes, I think it's time to try anxiety medication on Aegon. From your brief description, it does sound like you have tried a lot, and medication is the next logical step. I would speak to your vet about prescribing anti-anxiety medication for him.
