Some possible causes of Fizz's mass could be benign or malignant masses (yes, cancer is a possibility), a granuloma, or cyst. In order to diagnose the type of lesion, Fizz should see her vet for an exam and fine needle aspirate (FNA) of the lesion. The FNA is performed by drawing a few cells from the lesion with a needle and then examining them microscopically. This will help your vet to determine the type of mass present and if surgical excision is necessary. Even benign masses can become red, irritated, and possibly infected if Fizz is licking or scratching at it. Until her appointment with her vet, try to keep her from licking or scratching at the mass by using an e-collar (cone) or t-shirt, depending on the location of the lesion.

It could be cancerous but it could also be benign. Have your vet take a look at her to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If it is bleeding than it might just be best to remove the lesion.
