Why is my senior dog hiding and sad after ear infection meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 12 years and 1 month old | 30 lbs

My 12 year old dog had an ear infection 2 weeks ago and antibiotics were prescribed since then she hides from me she's had ear infections before and it's never been an issue. She's eating and drinking enjoys her walks nothing has changed in our routine but her behaviour is unusual she looks sad and will hide under a garden table until I go to bed then she will come in and lay on my bed. She looks sad she let's me touch her ears she's not rubbing them so I don't think it's still an infection

Based on your description, I would suspect as well that Sheila isn't suffering from the ear infection still, but keep in mind that I can't say this for certain without seeing her in person. She may be feeling lethargic, which is a very general sign of illness, and I would keep an eye on her for now. Should this lethargy continue over the next 48 hours, I would have Sheila seen by a vet for a health check.
