My dog was neutered. Is bloody discharge from stitches normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 45 lbs

Hi, my dog Elvis was neatured yesterday. He's home now with the cone of shame. When he is out every once and a while a drop of bloody/watery substance from his stitches (I think, can't quite tell) however there is no blood on him or his cage.

In some cases, a small amount of serous or serosanguinous (clear or pinkish) discharge can occur a day or two after surgery. However, Elvis should be checked by his vet to make sure the incision has not become infected or developed a seroma, and is healing properly. Keep using his cone of shame to prevent any licking. I hope his recovery goes well!
