Blind parrot's eye problems worsening: Should I consider euthanasia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 3 years and 11 months old

Hello, I have a 3 year old yellow naped amazon. We handed it and on its first flight it hurt it's left eye. An avian ved gave us some triple antibiotic ointment for the ulcer but it didn't work. It went blind in that eye, swelling and shrinking. Now it is happening to the other eye, swelling and draining. It's very tame and large vocabulary and totally blind. I don't know what to do, I don't want it to be in pain. I'm considering having it euthanized but would lose a close friend. Any help, thanks

I think it's best to return to your avian veterinarian or even seek out an ophthalmologist (eye) specialist to see if the eyes can be saved or safely removed. They may be able to treat the remaining eye so that it can be saved, or suggest additional treatment to try and get Paco feeling better.
