My Lab has a leg lump. Vet says no surgery. Need a second opinion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 82 lbs

I have a Lab that has a large ball on his right side towards his hind leg. Microscopic findings ; excessive dermal collagen, probable collagenous hamartoma. Vet says we should not operate cause it will cause a large cavity in the area. I would like a second opinion.

While surgical closure may be difficult, surgical excision of a mass, though expectedly benign, is the best recommendations. Prior to surgery, please make sure that your pet has been screened for other tumors or neoplasia with chest x-rays and an abdominal ultrasound. Consultation with a board certified surgeon may be considered.
