My dog shakes and has pale gums before eating. Is it low blood sugar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Greyhound | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

My dog has begun to shake/tremble (when breathing in) about half an hour before she's meant to be fed, and her gums go pale. We've had her for 6 months and this has been in the last couple of weeks. She's a 30kg greyhound and we feed her 220g of kibble twice a day along with a few treats throughout the day. As soon as I feed her the shaking goes away.

This could be due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), and that is causing her to shake and tremble. It is concerning she does this and then it clears up when you feed her. I would have Ash seen by a vet right away for this. It is possible she is suffering from diabetes, and that needs to be diagnosed right away if she does have it so she can be treated. Please take her into a vet now.
