Is it safe for my dachshund puppy to fly after strangles?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | unspayed | 2.6 lbs

Hello We brought a mini dachshund and after her 6 week vac she got a mildish case of strangles. The breeder found it within 24 hours and started on meds straight away. She was supposed to fly interstate (1 hour) to us but we delayed it. She's eating heaps and still playing with her siblings. Do you think it's safe to fly just say by the end of next week?

Hello. I am sorry to hear that Frankie had strangles. After 1 week of treatment, if it appears that the treatment is working well, and Frankie is otherwise doing ok, it should be ok for a short flight. A quick vet check before the flight would be recommended however to ensure treatment is progressing as it should.
