My cat licked cleaning product off the wall. Is a vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Sphynx | Male | neutered | 6 months and 10 days old | 7 lbs

My dad sprayed DIF cleaning product on the bathroom wall and before he could wash it off my Sphynx licked the wall twice. Does he need to go to the vet or is he okay because it was only two licks?

Hello. I cannot find the exact product you are referring to, however with cleaning products the most typical problem is irritation to the region where there was exposure. Usually this means that ingestion will cause ulcers and irritation in the mouth, or in the GI tract. I would suggest rinsing out the mouth and monitoring for any clinical signs including vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, decreased attitude (being very quiet, not wanting to move or play). As long as Clint is acting normally, and isn't salivating (drooling) a lot or acting abnormal, he should be ok. You can always call your emergency clinic or post the full name of the product that we can double check as well for any more toxic ingredients. I hope Clint feels better!
