My senior dog faints and pees when excited. What could be wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

I have a minature pincher that is 11yrs old ..occasionally when I come home from work I will see him trying to get up and pee on the floor. It seems he is losing consciousness but bounces right back to normal.. no other signs or symptoms and it only happens occasionally and only when we first get home?!? What could be wrong with my little Tyson!?

Tyson urgently needs to be seen by your veterinarian as he could be suffering from so-called syncopes. As he is a geriatric dog, his heart may be compromised, so when he gets excited when you get home, it may not transport enough oxygenated blood to his brain and he faints. This is called a syncope. There may also be other reasons for this, and a veterinary exam will help find the cause for the "losing consciousness". Epilepsy may be another cause. Your vet may want to do chest x rays and blood tests.
