I steamed frozen peas and carrots on high for 25 minutes. Will my dog digest this ok? I had previously fed her frozen microwaved peas and carrots that had been cooked for 4 minutes. should I mash them with a potato masher, will this help at all. She really likes them but I want her to be able to digest them so she's getting the nutrients out of them. The canned food I'm feeding her as a topper has whole veggies, potatoes and beans, should I switch to a pate or should she digest this ok? thanks!

Hi there. Frozen/mashed/microwaved/raw/ or any other way you prepare it peas and carrots will be fine for your dog. Avoid toxic vegetables like onion and garlic, and don't serve with butter or other fatty oils or foods. Vegetables like peas and carrots are a great treat for your dog. Her teeth will crush it up so you don't have to mash it, and if she doesn't have any teeth cut it into small pieces so she doesn't choke, but the stomach acid will do the rest.
