My dog has blood around his penis, not urethra, but shows no pain?

We woke up to blood on the floor and saw it's coming from our 9 year old dogs penis. It seems to be coming from around it not actually out the urethra. It doesn't seem to hurt him. Pet's info: Dog | Brittany | Male | neutered | 9 years and 10 months old | 45 lbs

I'm glad that Bogey is not bothered by the blood! If the blood was coming from his urethra, we would certainly be more inclined to suspect a urinary tract infection, crystals, or stones in the bladder or urethra. However, since you are concerned that it is coming from around the penis in the prepuce, or sheath, I would be more concerned that Bogey has either foreign material, a mass or infection. His vet should be able to perform a thorough physical exam to evaluate this condition.
