Found an injured, blind magpie. What's best? Can I keep it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

I took in a injured magpie after it was attacked by a crow. He seems to be getting along fine I'm unsure if he can fly but he's completely blind now because of the crow ... I quote like the little guy he's only young and don't mind keeping him but what do you think is in his best interest I'm having conflicting thoughts ...

Have Maggie examined by a veterinarian experienced in treating wildlife. You will need to check local laws to confirm it is legal to keep such a bird as a pet. A wildlife rehabilitator may also be able to help him recover and may give him the best chance at eventual release. If he is truly blind, this will be impossible obviously. If you can't keep him, he may need to go to someone who can or to a wildlife sanctuary.
