Should I store my dog's kibble in the fridge or freezer for freshness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Can I store my dogs kibble in the fridge or freezer for extended shelf life? I've heard dog food can start to oxidize within two weeks after opening the bag. It takes my dog about one month to go through a small bag of kibble. Which would be better storing it in the fridge or freezer? Thanks!

Dry commercial dog foods are shelf stable and do not require refrigeration or freezing for storage. Store any open food in a food-grade container that seals well at room temperature. Be sure to use all food before the expiration date printed on the bag.
