My Kerry blue puppy wakes up every morning with mucus in his eyes is there anything I can do to stop this. Thanks

Hello there! Sometimes puppies have a type of eye infection that can cause mucus to form in the eyes. Or, sometimes they don't have adequate tears, and the eyes respond with mucus instead. Ideally, it would be a great idea to have the eyes checked by your vet.

If he is holding the eye closed and it swollen or cloudy looking, the I would be concerned and he needs to be seen immediately. This can be a sign of a corneal ulcer or abrasion or other foreign body or trauma to the eye. If he is acting normal and alert, with no changes to the eye otherwise, then you can flush the eye with saline eye drops to minimize the discharge. If it continues after a few days of this, then he should be seen to see if there is an infection causing the discharge.
