My dog is still squinting after 8 days on Optimmune. Should I wait?

If Chance's eyes become cloudy, red, has any discharge then have your veterinarian take a look as those can be signs of an ulcer.

Optixcare is an eye lube, it won't treat an infection if an infection is present, which is likely the case. you didn't attach a photo to this question so it's hard for me to tell you what it could be, with eyes when in doubt i always recommend a physical vet visit as it must be examined in person. if an infection is present she will need an antibiotic eye drops, this is prescription only anyway so you will need to see a vet for that.

Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Severe ocular infections can lead to damage of the eye if not treated. Unless this issue has been going on for quite some time, waiting an additional 2 days shouldn't be a big issue. There is not a lot you can do for this from home. You can go to your local pet store and get a small bottle of saline eye rinse, but he will likely need to be on antibiotics if an infection is present. I hope this helps!

Since Toby has not improved on his medications, I highly recommend that you have Toby reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Without knowing what the medication that was used and not knowing what the diagnosis was from your previous vet, it is difficult to guide you in the right direction. However, if the eyes were treated with an antibiotic and cleared up but are still accumulating thick material, I would recheck with the veterinarian and have the eyes checked for dry eye to see if this is the primary problem. Life long medication is needed if the eyes are diagnosed with dry eye. I hope this helps! It's a little too soon to get to the conclusion that the diagnosis is not correct but if you do not see any improvement until Monday i strongly recommend taking Arya to the vet again in order to have it rechecked, possibly under sedation this time as in some cases a foreign body could be hiding deep under the third eyelid causing these symptoms.

It is difficult to give advice without actually seeing the eye. You are welcome to post again with a photo if you'd like. That being said, as long as she is not pawing at the eye, scratching at it or squinting then you can probably wait until your vet opens again to take her for a recheck exam. Continue to put the medications in as prescribed. If you are noticing squinting or that the eye is actually bothering her then you need to get her to a vet ASAP for an exam. Hope this helps.
