My dog is in heat and peeing inside a lot. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 9 months old | 22 lbs

My dog usually never pees inside, but the last few days she's started to pee inside, up to 5 times a day. She has her period now and she only pees inside when she's on her period. But now she's peed inside unusually much. Should I be worried?

Poor Zelda! Since she's been having so many accidents in the house and it sounds like this is unusual for her, I would be concerned that she may have a UTI or other urinary problem causing her to have to pee so frequently. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam when you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis to check for any problems and get her started on antibiotics or other treatment if needed.
