Why is my dog's skin red and hot after his flea and tick bath?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 4 years old

My dog's skin is red inside his ears, by his nose, and on his belly. The top of his head is really hot as well as his belly. He has not itched or whined but it concerned me. He was outside for a few hours and I gave him a bath with his normal dawn and flea and tick shampoo. I'm just wondering if he needs medication or if it's a reaction from his bath

It could be a reaction from the flea and tick shampoo. That can be harsh on the skin and cause reactions. Because Bentley's skin is really hot and he's red all over, I would have him seen by a vet right away. I think he should be evaluated by a vet so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.
