The two are likely not related. Ear infections can be avoided by regular cleaning and keeping the ears as dry as possible. Especially after swimming or bathing. Mike should be examined by your veterinarian. A swab of the ear can be examined to determine if there is a fungal or bacterial infection so that the proper medications can be dispensed.

Ear infections and vaccinations are not related. If Mike already has red ears with debris and is shaking or scratching at his head a lot, it is quite likely that he already has an ear infection. Unfortunately, there are no effective over the counter medications that will treat ear infections. Mike needs to be seen by a veterinarian who will be able to microscopically determine if the infection is bacterial or fungal (yeast), and then treat with an appropriate medication. Once his infection has resolved, he should restart his vaccine series.
