How do veterinarians collect nasal and rectal samples from pets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello Doctors, I just want to ask you about the proper way for extraction of nasal and rectal samples from pets, I'm working on a thesis along with my friend and we want to take samples from pets to research antibiotic transfer between pets and owners. I would really appreciate it if you could guide us with the proper way to take nasal and rectal samples from pets (cats and dogs) for our research. Thanks a lot for your time.

Please specify what kind of sample you are talking about (biopsy? sample for bacterial culture? fine needle aspiration?) and I will be happy to describe it in details for your research project. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
