Dog had a flea. Am I in the clear? Will topical treatment kill new fleas?

Hi it's been a day since my dog picked up a live flea outside but it was spotted and killed. After thoroughly checking the past two days and sweeping without any signs, is it safe to say I'm in the clear? What will happen if my dog picks up another one in the yard will it just die if it bites because of the monthly topical treatment?

If you haven't seen any other signs of fleas, then yes I would say you are in the clear. If your dog does pick up another flea in the year, then yes it will die when the flea bites your dog due to the monthly topical treatment :-)
