Why is my dog pooping inside, losing hair, and suddenly biting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 1 year and 10 months old | 100 lbs

He has been going poop in the house a lot of the time diarrhea and some times just normal poop. He has lost lots of his hair and started getting it back this month but is now kind of going away again. We changed his food maybe a month ago to grain and poultry free. I've given him baths with certain oil in it to try and help his skin. He also just recently bit at my husband when he just went near him after he went the bathroom in the house. What do I do? I need help!

That sounds very frustrating for both you and Ryder! This can be tricky because there are a lot of possible underlying causes for the hair loss (alopecia) and inappropriate defecation. Alopecia can be caused by a variety of endocrine disorders (hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease, etc.), infectious concerns (mites, fleas), or allergic conditions. At this point, I would recommend taking Ryder in to your local vet for an exam. Please take a stool sample with you so that it can be examined for parasites.
