Can I give my dog liquid allergy medicine first thing in morning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old | 60 lbs

Tate is on immunotherapy for allergies, it is liquid that goes under he tongue. The instructions say he cannot have food or water 20 minutes before or after being given the medicine. My vet recommended giving it in the morning. Can I give it to him first thing when he wakes up as it will have been a long while since he ate or drank? Will it make him sick as he will have an empty stomach?

You can give it to Tate first thing in the morning when he wakes up, but if you do find that it makes him sick, then instead, I would feed him and allow him some water, take them both wait, and wait at least 20 minutes before giving it to him.
