My dog's neuter incision has a gap. Is it normal or a torn stitch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 20.01 lbs

My 2.5 year old male dog got neutered today. The incision has a gap. I am trying to determine if this is normal for drainage or if he tore a stitch. Is there a way I can email a picture of the incision?

Unfortunately, there is no way to email photos to the experts, but you can request a consult online where you can share your photos and receive more in-depth help. Without seeing this gap in person, I can't say if it's normal or not, but with a neuter spaces are left for drainage. The incision should held together with the sutures, so it is possible that he tore a stitch. To be safe, I would have Jack seen by a vet now, as he may need another suture put in.
