My cat has sticky eye discharge. Is it an infection or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

If my cat has like a sticky substance on one of her lower eyelids, Its not weeping or watery/teary, & she's holding it open as normal/it looks normal, it just looks like it got stuck during her sleep or something. (Like ours do sometimes) So does this nessarily mean she has Pink eye, or any other type of Eye infection? She has no other symptoms other then what looks like her eye may have gotten stuck closed during her sleep, Shes not squinting, or anything. Just has the sticky/smeard eye burger.

It could be the normal discharge that accumulates in the corner of the eye when a cat sleeps. I would try wiping it away gently with a soft wash cloth, and monitor her eye. If you see continued discharge, her eye appears red, or she starts having trouble opening her eye, then I would have her seen by a vet.
