Why is my 10-year-old boxer's heat discharge and swelling prolonged?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 42 lbs

My boxer went into heat 6 months ago the discharge slowed down to a small amount but continued for 4 months. All the while her vagina is extremely swollen (4x normal). For the last 2 months she still has a discharge but without any blood. She is 10 years old and other than this is in good health.

This is not normal, and Dolce has to see a vet immediately. A dog's heat should not continue for this long, nor should she have discharge for four months. I would be very concerned that she could have something seriously wrong with her, such as an infection. Please take her into a vet right away.
