My nervous dog is underweight and can't maintain his weight. Help!

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | 2 years and 9 months old

Trick is currently 18.9 kg he needs to be at least 19.5 kg he has run thin always he is a nervous dog who is active over the last month he dropped from 20.3kg to as low as 17.7 kg he does half the exercise he did due to a back injury so now does lead walks with short periods off lead but now after a week of 350 gm of kibble he has gained some weight but struggles to maintain it ideas on what could be going on

The first things to rule out would be gastrointestinal parasites, this is usually easy to test and treat. if this is not the case there are many gastrointestinal diseases that could cause that, each has different testing protocols, most have special foods that need to be tried. if he is not neutered, having him castrated can also help him gain some weight.
