My dog swallowed a toy and is vomiting. Is it an intestinal blockage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 10 months and 8 days old | 30 lbs

My dog is a known swallower of objects and toys. He was at the vet in December for a small blockage which didn't require treatment. we took him in because one morning he pooped himself laying down and then acted drunk. The vet saw a small blockage. Now my boyfriend gave him a soft toy to play with and took his eye off of him for two minutes and the toy is no where to be found. My dog has puked after eating twice. But is pooping normally and acting normal. It's been 32 hours. Worried

Sadly it is very possible that Onyx has a partial obstruction in the upper GI tract from swallowing the soft toy. I am glad that he is acting normally, but the vomiting after eating is very concerning. I recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and likely having x-rays taken to look for signs of an obstruction in the GI tract. The sooner, the better, to prevent possible damage to the GI tract, dehydration or more serious complications. Onyx may need surgery or a scoping procedure to remove an obstruction.
