Why is my dog lethargic, licking lips, and has a hard stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | 6 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

Since yesterday noon, Luckie doesn't want to move around. If you carry her and place her somewhere, she'll just stay there until you carry her again. She doesn't want to move around, her tummy is still a bit hard to press but she eats her food. She didn't drink the whole day yesterday but she drank a lot last night and this morning. She pooped last night but sitill hasn't this morning. She licks her lups a lot. What could be wrong woh her?

Poor Luckie, she sounds sick. If she is nauseous, that could cause her to lick her lips and drink lots of water. Being lethargic and not moving around can mean she has a fever or is in pain. Luckie may have an issue inside the GI tract (intestines) causing nausea or trouble with how her organs, particularly kidneys and liver are functioning as the cause for these symptoms. I recommend having Luckie examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They may recommend x-rays to look at the GI tract and/or blood work to evaluate her kidneys and liver. Good luck!
