What are the little black bumps on my cat's back near her tail?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 years and 5 months old | 10.5 lbs

I just noticed little black bumps running down a 5" path from the tail up, on the right side of my cat's spine. It looks very similar to folliculitis (that I suffer from). What could this be?

There are many conditions which could be affecting your kitty. These can include infections, allergies, thyroid conditions, clogged skin pores or even a possibility of skin tumors (which could be malignant or benign). Allergies can be caused by food, environmental allergens or fleas. Secondary skin infections are common in pets especially if there is an underlying problem. If there is a possibility of skin tumors, they should definitely be checked. I would recommend to take her in to see her veterinarian to get the bumps evaluated and find out the cause so the appropriate treatment can be initiated. Hope this helps!
