My cat has a raw, bleeding skin lump. What should I do to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 months and 11 days old

My cat had a lump under his skin for a week or two and now it is raw and bleeding. It is obviously bothering him. He's licking it and running around like crazy. What should I do

I would put an Ecollar on Ranger to keep him from licking at it. You can get one from a pet store or you can make one at home (I can give you a link to a website how to do it below). This lump on him could be a cyst, an abscess, or a benign tumor. Ranger needs to see a vet tomorrow for this because it's clearly irritating him. The vet can diagnose what is causing the lump and the best way to treat it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ffR-LzyW1M
