How to tell a budgie's age by its cap, cere, eyes, or leg band?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

I am trying to determine my budgie's age, he has a clear cap, blue cere, and grey irises. He has a purple band around his leg as we got him from a breeder in NSW Australia. I was wondering if you could help me give him an age estimate. Thank you

Based on the cap and eye color, probably at least 4-8 months. Usually the band color will tell you what year the budgie hatched if they are registered with the American Budgeriger Society. Since he was obtained in Australia, he is probably registered there. . Checkout the info on the website though at https://abs1.org/ to see if you can find any links to Australian societies.
