My cat has GI issues. Should I wait for the vet or go to ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 9.5 lbs

I asked about my cat's symptoms earlier and based on what i said it's possible that there may be an infection or parasite in my cat's GI tract. My local vet is closed until monday, is this something that should be treated as an emergency? Or could it wait to be seen a couple of days?

That's a good question. If she continues to eat and drink with no signs of vomiting, acting lethargic or very tired, then you can likely wait until Monday. If you see signs of blood in the stool or she starts straining defecate without passing any stool, then I would take her to an emergency veterinarian.
