My pregnant cat is stressed and hitting her older kittens. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 10 months old

Is it normal for a mother cat to be protective of her new borns from their other siblings ( 4 months old) She didn't deliver yet but she hits her kittens and make stressed noises if they come close to keep them away

Yes, it is normal of a mother cat to be protective of her unborn kittens. I would keep her previous litter away from her until after her new litter is at least six weeks of age when they start weaning.
